When the week won't end, and you're bored at work... who you gonna call? Ghostbusters. Specifically, as rendered in the...
Very first look at the Ghostbusters girls on set! Sure, it was a bit of a bummer to hear that Emma Stone passed on the project, but we can't be mad at this shot of Melissa McCarthy and Kate McKinnon getting things underway in L.A. I can't get enough of McKinnon in this frazzled alien/art teacher look. This is clearly going to be her mega-moment.
Arya has a helluva Game of Thrones finale If you had a crazy work at week and STILL haven't watched, first off, congrats on being the ultimate spoiler dodger. Secondly, stop reading this blurb now. Sure, she may have been overshadowed by the death of Jon Snow, but Maisie Williams' scrappy Arya perpetrated what may be the goriest death on Game of Thrones' to date (and that's sayin something). That's what we call bloody equality. Click here to read our full recap of the madness.
Selina ties in the election on the Veep finale The presidential election concerning Julia Louis-Dreyfus's incumbent ended with a cool twist from the deep recesses of political wonkery: Selina Meyer and her opponent earned the same number of electoral college votes. A quirk of that scenario dictates that Meyer's vice presidential candidate,
Dr. Gregory House Hugh Laurie's Tom James, could actually usurp the Oval Office from her. What this sets up for next season is a sharper-contrast battle between Meyer and James, which is essentially a gender politics faceoff: She's the first female president who loses approval points for not being a natural beauty-queen schmoozer, he's the dashing man everyone seems to swoon for on sight.
Nicole Kidman faces an old fear at the Women in Film ceremony While receiving an award, Kidman talked about a role she had passed on early in her career because she was too intimidated by it—she would've had to kiss another woman while wearing a shower cap. Kidman exorcised that demon by slapping one on, grabbing Naomi Watts, and locking lips with her. The gesture made headlines, as beautiful actresses kissing tends to do, and the story behind it was worth the flash; we don't remember Britney and Madonna's on-stage makeout having quite the same vibe of accomplishment.
Melissa Rivers will replace Joan Rivers on Fashion Police The show's been in a bit of flux this year, and having Joan's daughter step into her shoes is a fantastic PR move; everyone loves seeing snark stay in the family. Since Melissa traditionally tended to play her mom's straight woman, we can't wait to see her wild out over some unflattering shades and ill-placed peplums.
Jurassic's giant box office = A dino-sized payday for Jennifer Lawrence Hollywood is hype over how fantastic Jurassic World did last weekend—hype enough to get moving on Passengers, a megabudget sci-fi thriller earmarked for Chris Pratt and Jennifer Lawrence. The coolest part: The salary planned for Lawrence is almost twice what Pratt will make. After that disheartening American Hustle situation (Lawrence and Amy Adams made less than Bradley Cooper, Jeremy Renner and Christian Bale), this feels like a happy ending.
The Malala documentary is one step closer to worldwide domination National Geographic channel will air He Named Me Malala about Nobel Peace Prize winner Malala Yousafzai, her activism, and her family, in 2016. It's a good first step—call us when someone gives the girl a whole network to play with. Watch the trailer here.
